I was born and raised in this city, so I guess my view of it is somewhat biased. I have nothing but nostalgia for the city. Its not so much scenic as it just exudes a kind of passivity and relaxation that cannot be mimicked by anywhere else, certainly not by any city. For a modernized city, it has a pace that reminds you of the countryside. Everyone is mellow and relaxed. One can spend a whole day drinking tea by the river and playing majong and not feel like the day was wasted. Some may find it bland, what with the gray sky and the flat terrain, but its one of those places that you will slowly fall in love with, with the kind of lifestyle it stands for.
